Neil Crowder

What Neil brings to GC Consultants is a bit different.

An Ex-Sales Director in the paper business, Neil now works full time at his sailing training centre based on Lake Windermere .

From here he offers cruises, day charters and RYA approved courses of varying levels for those bitten by the sailing bug!

What Neil can do is to customise a sailing event for the specific needs of his clients. This means that it can be anything from a gentle cruise, which allows the beauty of the Lake District to be seen from a completely different angle, to a fun, but competitive sailing challenge around an Olympic style course.

Neil can cater for up to thirty people on identical thirty two foot performance yachts, and the thrill of sailing such beautiful boats in such a beautiful place has to be experienced to be believed!

However, there is a more serious side to what Neil does. In order to sail a boat effectively people have not only to be aware of what they are doing, but have also to understand how what they do affects what others are doing. To achieve any success, the first requirement of the crew of a sailing boat is to work as a team. This makes the whole experience of sailing a boat remarkably similar to running an effective business. If people are not clear about the objectives to be achieved, or do not have the training and development to help them to achieve, then it will not surprise anyone if success is elusive. Furthermore, if people do not realise that what they do, and how they do it impacts significantly on what others do then frustration and demotivation grow, because the results which are obtained do not match the effort and energy invested in their production.

However, when success is achieved the charge of energy which it brings emphasises the central point of team building, which is,that together we can achieve far more than we ever can working by ourselves.

Sailing is an excellent way of developing team spirit with outdoor exercise which can be as vigorous as people wish to make it and is one of the finest ways to build up the interpersonal relationships necessary for effective work performance.
